The media conglomerates enter your homes and your very brains with extremely subtle messages that undermine all of the normal restraints that reason imposes on tolerance for contradiction, on what you are willing to pay for housing, food, transportation, insurance, medical care, education and all of the little frivolities of modern life. It is one thing to refuse to believe obvious myths about an omnipotent God with supernatural powers, but another thing to resist the economic, political and psychological powers of global media conglomerates that decide what you see in your home, what you think about, the prices you pay for the necessities of life, etc.
