Imagine Change

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

TCA's Toll Road is not in The National Interest, Just Special Intrest.

A U.S. Department of Commerce decision is expected soon regarding a controversial toll road extension that would slice through a portion of San Onofre State Beach, jeopardizing a pristine watershed that is home to 11 endangered species, Panhe a Native American Site, San Mateo A top 5 State Park, and also jeopardizing the world famous Trestles surf breaks.

In case you missed it, the L.A. Times devoted nearly a page in Monday's California edition outlining issues that have made the proposed project so contentious. (HOW MUCH DID THAT COST?)

Personally, I despise the idea as much as I despise heavy traffic.

What the story glossed over were the pros and cons of developing state parks.

Outdoors enthusiasts ought to oppose any project that sacrifices even a portion of any state park. Parks ought to be considered sacred ground and protected against all infringements of civilization. And Sacred ground needs to be thought of as Sacred Ground.

Isn't that the purpose behind them?

San Onofre receives 2.8 million visitors a year and is the fourth-most visited park in California. Reasons: proximity to ocean and wilderness, and aesthetics.

Those visitors would not likely welcome such an unsightly intrusion, which would run for about five miles and consume 320 acres of their beloved park.

San Onofre State Beach is bisected by San Mateo Creek, the last pristine public watersheds in Southern California and home 11 endangered species..

Groups such as the Sierra Club, Surfrider Foundation, Wildcoast, Save San Onofre Coalition and California State Parks Foundation vehemently oppose the project for good reasons.

Even proponents of the toll road project concede this habitat will be damaged.

As for waves at Lower Trestles, one of the world's premier point breaks and home to the only World Tour surfing event in the continental United States, they may not be ruined by the alteration of flow from the creek caused by construction.

Or they could be.

As for traffic, there are no assurances that travelers on Interstate 5 in south Orange County will even detect the slightest difference after completion of an alternative route that would dump motorists onto I-5 at Basilone Road south of San Clemente.

Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez has until Jan. 7 to decide whether to override the California Coastal Commission's rejection of the project last February.

Here's hoping he decides in favor of state parks.

Surfers, beachgoers unite to stop 241 toll road

Thanks to the California Coastal Act, plans for the road have to change!

The San Mateo campground in San Diego county found unlikely heroes in "everyday" normal people.

Teachers, students, surfers and others banded together to fight against the destruction of their treasured state park and beach.

The fight to oppose the expansion of the 241 toll road through the campground has been characterized as a "David vs. Goliath battle."

The (YEACH) Transportation Corridor Agencies wielded political clout and wealth.

Southern California residents exhibited heart and determination as they came together against the odds, to fight the proposition that would endanger the future of the campground and Trestles beach.

The California Coastal Commission recently held a hearing to determine whether the toll road would violate the California Coastal Act.

This hearing was a pivotal point in the battle.

The commission holds the keys to developing on California coastlines.

Volunteers from all over Southern California began working together to encourage the commission to deny the toll road.

"This battle has been going on for eight years," said Robin Everett, Conservation Organizer for the Friends of the Foothills campaign.

Those in opposition to the toll road worried that the wealthy TCA would sway the commission.

Local environmental conservation groups, such as the Sierra Club and Surfrider Foundation, began to drum up support through meetings, rallies, T-shirts, posters and lawn signs.

The commission decided at the hearing that the expansion does not comply with the Coastal Act, putting a major roadblock in the plans.

"I think the compelling arguments and the large turnout of those in opposition swayed the commission," Everett said of the commission hearing.

Some of these individuals had previous experience in political activism, others were new to the process.

Candice Mize, a California State Fullerton public relations major, was never involved in activism for any political issue prior to this one.

She camped at San Mateo with her aunt a few years ago and heard of the plan to build the toll road through the campground.

"It caught my attention," Mize said. "I was shocked to hear that they would take away a state park."

Mize's aunt, Deborah Fry, is a sixth grade teacher in San Bernardino county and calls San Mateo her "home away from home."

Fry and her family have been camping at San Mateo for 14 years. Her passion for the campground and other state parks in her hometown drove her to be involved in the campaign.

"This is the first time I've ever been involved in an issue like this," Fry said. "My family was never involved in politics."

Fry said she feels compelled to do what she can to help stop the expansion of the toll road.

Fry began writing letters to her local newspapers, sending out e-mail blasts and getting the word out wherever and whenever she could.

The commission hearing on Feb. 6 was attended by over 3,000 people. Mize and Fry attended the meeting that went from early in the morning until 11:30 p.m.

"I showed up and held a sign," Mize said. "It was neat to be able to be a part of something, to say I made a difference."

Mize said she joined the campaign because she and her family enjoy hiking and camping in the state parks in Northern California as well as the San Mateo Campground.

"I love being able to escape from city life, to have the peace and serenity of nature," Mize said.

Fry said she believes there is power in numbers.

"Every little act makes a difference," Fry said. "Sometimes you won't know until later what your impact was. I will be able to look back and say that I did everything I could to save the park. I won't have any regrets. Every little act makes a difference." By: Sarah Cruz.

Thank the Commission and Come Celebrate!

We set up an online petition to thank the Commissioners for protecting Trestles. It's very important that we thank decision makers when they do the right thing!

This landslide vote was a watershed moment for the environmental movement and we need to make sure the Commissioners are positively acknowledged! It's super easy. Go here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/petition/406462345 and sign your name. Surfrider will print up all the signatures and then hand deliver them at the next CCC hearing in So Cal.

We are having a party next Saturday (Feb 23) at the OC Tavern to celebrate our win at the Coastal Commission hearing. We have three outstanding bands lined up (Bushwalla, Anna Troy and Austin Jennings). Plus, there will be a killer raffle…..and most importantly, all your friends who have helped protect Trestles and San Onofre will be there! Pass around the invite!

When: Sat Feb 23 at 8pm

Where: OC Tavern: 2369 El Camino Real,San Clemente

Breakdown

I hope this old train breaks down
Then I could take a walk around
And, see what there is to see
And time is just a melody
All the people in the street
Walk as fast as their feet can take them
I just roam through town
And though my windows got a view
The frame I'm looking through
Seems to have no concern for me now
So for now I,

I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown

This engine screams out loud
Saying the beat gunna crawl westbound
So I don't even make a sound
Cause its gunna sting me when I leave this town
And all the people in the street
That I'll never get to meet
If these tracks dont bend somehow
And I got no time
That I got to get to
Where I don't need to be
So I

I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I wanna break on down
But I can't stop now
Let me break on down

But you cant stop nothing
If you got no control
Of the thoughts in your mind
That you kept in you know
You dont know nothing
But you dont need to know
The wisdoms in the trees
Not the glass windows
You can't stop wishing
If you dont let go
But things that you find
And you lose and you know
You keep on rolling
Put the moment on hold
The frames too bright
So put the blinds down low

And, I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I wanna break on down
But I can't stop now...

Everyone Deserves Music

Everyone deserves music, sweet music
Everyone deserves music, sweet music

Seven in the morn' step on the floor
Walk into the kitchen and you open the door
There ain't much left in the bottle of juice
Because the seeds that you planted never reproduced
Computer still runnin'
But your mind has crashed
Because the plans that you made never came to pass
Now you reconizin' the times is hard
When you tryin' to take a bite out of your ATM card

Everyone deserves music, sweet music
Everyone deserves music, sweet music
Even our worst enemies Lord, they deserves music, music
Even the quiet ones in our family, they deserve music

Ginny's home life wouldn't stabilize
At the age of 15 learned to drink and drive
No one ever could seem to empathize
Makin' babies in the back seat on tranquilizers
Papa never was much a rolling stone see
He just like to sit and drink alone
Mama always tried to do the best she could
She would work all day and then come home to cook but,
We all vain, we all strange
We all drained, we all love to just complain.
But nobody wants to seem to get along, ya see
We got shame, we got pain
We got blame, we all a little bit insane
So that's why I sing this song ya know because

So I pray for them and I'll play for them
So I pray for them and I'll play for them
We all vain, we all strange
We all drained, we all love to just complain.
But nobody wants to seem to get along, ya see
We got shame, we got pain
We got blame, we all a little bit insane
So that's why I sing this song ya know because...

Particle or Wave

Quantum physics is a branch of science that deals with discrete, indivisible units of energy called quanta as described by the Quantum Theory. There are five main ideas represented in Quantum Theory:

1. Energy is not continuous, but comes in small but discrete units.
2. The elementary particles behave both like particles and like waves.
3. The movement of these particles is inherently random.
4. It is physically impossible to know both the position and the momentum of a particle at the same time. The more precisely one is known, the less precise the measurement of the other is.
5. The atomic world is nothing like the world we live in.

While at a glance this may seem like just another strange theory, it contains many clues as to the fundamental nature of the universe and is more important then even relativity in the grand scheme of things (if any one thing at that level could be said to be more important then anything else). Furthermore, it describes the nature of the universe as being much different then the world we see. As Niels Bohr said, Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood it...

Soul On A Wave

This association of surfers, black surfers, is one of a kind. Our intent and purpose is the continuous search for our unique character and individuality so fluidly expressed in dancing, wave dancing. We are the literal main ingredient of a developing organization of young and old, male and female, Black persons who seek to share the pleasures of our Creator's oceanic rhythms...
